Winning start for Sikkim in Dr. T Ao Cup

GANGTOK: Sikkim made a winning start in Dr. T Ao Cup football tournament with a 1-0 victory on Tuesday against Assam at Kohima.
Midfielder Don Tshering Lepcha scored the all-important goal in the 73rd minute by converting a penalty, informed team manager ArjunRai.
With this victory, Sikkim has collected 3 points in its group which also has Mizoram and Meghalaya. Sikkim plays against Meghalaya next on January 23.
“The boys played well today and beyond our expectations. They did everything the coach had asked them to do and got the vital victory,” said Rai.
Rai informed that goalkeeper UrgenPintso Sherpa gave a wonderful performance in the match today. The goalkeeper made three crucial saves and stopped the goal-bound shots on three occasions, he said.
The Sikkim team manager praised the organising committee of Nagaland government for the immaculate arrangements of the tournament. Everything is well arranged, from transportation to hospitality for all the teams, he said.
Rai also thanked the Sikkim government for sending the State team for the Dr. T Ao Cup. He thanked Chief Minister P.S. Golay for his support and grant of Rs. 1 lakh for the State team.
