SKM counters Chamling’s statement

Staff Reporter
GANGTOK: SKM spokesperson Jacob Khaling has responded to the social media video statement of SDF president and former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling regarding the police action against two SDF workers.
In a press statement today, Khaling maintained that SDF social media worker Barap Namgyal Bhutia was arrested for allegedly forging signatures of the present Chief Minister P.S. Golay and other senior SKM leaders. This is an offence of grave nature and a serious crime, he said.
As far as Santosh Rai (Khoj House) is concerned, he has been arrested on charges of Prevention of Atrocity Act 1989 Section 3 which is another serious offence and which has been termed so by even the highest judicial court under the Constitution of India, the Supreme Court of India, said Khaling. Not just this but he (Santosh Rai) has been booked for defaming women on social media and for badmouthing and disgracing women, alleged Khaling.
“Now I question Chamling again, is it wrong to arrest someone who has been termed as an offensive by even the Supreme Court of India? Is it wrong to question an individual who had been spreading hate and defaming women folk of our State?,” said the SKM spokesperson.
Khaling gave a list of examples of alleged misuse of power by Chamling when he was the Chief Minister for 25 years. Chamling is the same person who victimised people and suspended them for attending the historic Rolu picnic even though it was on a holiday and an individual has the full right to do so, he said.
“Many people were called and some even arrested for writing anything against him and his government. Not just this but people were even targeted and transferred for just liking or sharing posts of the opposition party,” said Khaling.
“No one can forget that when Pawan Kumar Chamling was in power, he left no stone unturned to use his power to suppress the voice of the innocent people and the opposition parties. Setting vehicles on fire, stone pelting opposition's house, stopping vehicles and indulging in fights has been common incidents during the Chamling regime,” said the SKM spokesperson.
