Rimbi Maghey Mela concludes with rural tourism promotion goals

PRITAM LAMA

GEYZING: The six-day-long Rimbi Maghey Mela held at Rimbi rock garden in West Sikkim concluded on Friday. The annual mela was organised by the district level celebration committee with support from district administration and government departments. It aimed to propagate rural tourism in the area.
The concluding day was attended by PHE minister Bhim Hang Subba as the chief guest.
Organising committee president Basant Tamang, who is also the SKM Yuksam-Tashiding constituency CLC president, said, the Rimbi mela was successful and conducted without any outward incidents.
“The mela was organised for bringing together all people in a platform. We showcased the tradition and culture of various communities promoting rural tourism in the area. The event also encouraged the people to preserve and promote their respective culture and tradition for tourism promotion. The event was not solely for entertainment purpose. The primary aim was to propagate rural tourism in the area. We also provided platform to the local artists and youths to display their hidden talents,” said Tamang.
Tamang thanked the district administration, government departments and the stakeholders for their support.
PHE minister Bhim Hang Subba, in his brief address, highlighted the various new schemes and youth-centric initiative of State government after the SKM party came to power in Sikkim last May. He appreciated the initiative of government departments for putting up their stalls for the benefit of the public.
