Police registers cheating case against Bijay Chamling on SIMFED complaint

Staff Reporter
GANGTOK: A case of cheating has been registered at Gangtok Sadar Police Station against Bijay Chamling following a complaint filed by the SIMFED, a State government undertaking.
As per the complaint filed by the SIMFED managing director on January 2, SIMFED had placed an order of 364 computer sets from Zaynun India, a firm based in Daragaon, Gangtok.
Bijay Chamling has been mentioned as the proprietor of the Daragaon firm which received the supply order from SIMFED in December 2013 and January 2014. The computers were mentioned for distribution to various schools under SSA division of the Education department.
An advance of Rs. 1.77 crore was given to the firm through various cheques, as per the complaint.
It is alleged that the company supplied only 95 computer sets worth Rs. 47.31 lakh on December 10, 2013.
Accordingly, the SIMFED was regularly following with the firm for delivery of the balance materials and completion of work for settlement of the account. A legal notice was also sent to the company in April 2019 asking it to complete the supply of the remaining computers or else refund the advance taken along with penal interest. However, the firm, in spite of receiving the notice, has not bothered to come forward. The owner of the firm is absconding since he is not responding to our letters or phone calls, the SIMFED mentioned in its complaint to the police.
Accordingly, the police have registered the case on January 3 under sections 420 and 409 of IPC against the company proprietor.
As per police sources, several attempts were made to reach out to Bijay Chamling through phone calls and family but he did not show up. Efforts are being made to trace him at the earliest, it was informed.
