Inner Wheel Club of Gangtok Orchid felicitates women Safai Karmacharis

GANGTOK: To celebrate International Women’s Day which falls on March 8, the Inner Wheel Club of Gangtok Orchid today felicitated three women Safai Karmacharis at an event held at Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) office here today. The three women are Rita Darjee (Arithang), Khush Kumari Subba (Lower Sichey) and Sarita Rawat (Arithang).
Rita has been working at GMC for the past three years and has since then been involved in the beautification of MG Marg. She joined GMC to look after her family and her child’s education.
Khush Kumari Subba has been associated with GMC for the past four years and covers Development Area. She joined GMC to financially support her family.
Sarita Rawat has been part of GMC for the past 15 years and she covers Denzong road, Kazi road and the organic market. She also joined the GMC to financially support her family.
The chief guest for the event was GMC commissioner Hem K. Chettri, and the special guests were Inner Wheel Club of Gangtok president Asha Kiran and Rotary Club of Gangtok president Mohan Sarda.
Asha Kiran informed that the Inner Wheel Club of Gangtok is the parent body of the Inner Wheel Club of Gangtok Orchid that involves young women. She expressed happiness on witnessing the first independent project of the newly-formed club. Briefly highlighting on the history of International Women’s Day, she expressed that women, no matter how big or small her work is, needs to be appreciated.
Kiran informed that the Inner Wheel Club of Gangtok has been involved in various projects for the benefit of women and children. The recent being the club’s involvement in installing sanitary pad vending machines at schools and district hospitals which is underway.
On the occasion, Mohan Sarda proposed the GMC to grant permission to the Rotary Club of Sikkim to construct a clock tower at MG Marg here. It will act as a main attraction for tourists, he added.
The Inner Wheel Club of Gangtok Orchid president Bhumika Sarda expressed that the main aim of the event was to appreciate and thank the women involved in working for clean Sikkim.
