GEYZING: People in West Sikkim are cooperating with the administration by staying indoors during the lockdown period. Only those with emergency work or purchase of essential commodities are seen coming out in public places.
DC (west) Karma R Bonpo informed SIKKIM EXPRESS that the administration is fully tracking and monitoring the persons directed to stay in home quarantine. He informed that 818 persons are under home quarantine in west district and 23 persons are quarantined in four government quarantine centres across West Sikkim. We are also planning to take up hotels as facility centres in case of emergencies, he said.
On medical facilities, the DC informed that preparation of isolation ward is going on as per the norms of the Union government.
“We are in the process of adding more beds in the isolation ward. We have received all the equipment and four ventilators are in transit. We have ordered for six cardiac monitors, ICU kits and beds. We are well stocked with 20,000 surgical masks, 300 N95 masks, 200 PPEs to tackle any emergency situation. Disinfectant drive is also going on in the district on regular basis”, said Bonpo.
Bonpo informed that there is adequate stock of food grains in the district. He added that there is no shortage of vegetables in the markets of West Sikkim considering the district is highest producer of vegetables. In case of excess production, the administration will send the vegetables to the State capital, he said. We are comfortable in terms of essential commodities, he said. He informed that the migrant workers in the district have been tracked and taken care of by the administration.
The BDOs have been directed to give two passes for health and essential emergencies for the convenience of the public, informed the DC. He appreciated the coordination between the administration and the public during the lockdown period. He appealed all to do their responsibilities so as to achieve the objective of the 21-day lockdown.
